The Position
Serves as Senior Authority on Maternal Mortality Prevention by providing programmatic and technical public health and data expertise to address the Maternal Mortality Prevention Act, including leading and facilitating the statutorily- mandated Maternal Mortality Review Committee (MMRC). The MMRC reviews all cases of maternal death through a formal review process and is composed of medical, behavioral health and mental health, community based and lived experience experts. Responsible for the development and implementation of a structure and processes to review cases in a timely manner and translate data into maternal mortality prevention recommendations.
This position is responsible for developing the strategic direction for the MMRC, and applying health equity, reproductive justice and intersectional lenses to the identification, development and implementation of MMRC processes and maternal mortality prevention recommendations. Provides supervision for staff working on maternal mortality review activities.
This position contributes to national publications and presentations translating maternal mortality data to action, as well as developing and sustaining grant objectives, and reporting maternal mortality activities through the Enhancing Reviews and Surveillance to Eliminate Maternal Mortality (ERASE MM) Program for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This position collaborates closely with other State agencies and divisions which have programming that requires insight into maternal morality prevention, data collection, surveillance and healthcare quality improvement. Gathers input from community members who represent the populations most affected by the maternal mortality prevention recommendations, including lived experience experts and community-based partners who can help refine and prioritize the implementation of recommendations.
